The Hygge “Trend”
Whether it’s because of New Year’s resolutions, or just people wanting to enjoy life more, I’ve noticed more and more talk of Hygge on other bloggers sites and Pinterest, but that was about it. Recently though I was shopping online for house decor (shocking, I know!) and noticed on more than one site there was a tab for “Hygge Living”. So what is Hygge and why is everyone doing it?
Hygge (pronounce hoo-gah) is a Danish way of living that’s taking the world by storm. There is no single translation, but it basically means to live in life’s simple pleasures. You surround yourself in calm, peaceful place’s that conveys the feeling of sanctuary, closeness and community. If you look up the definition, you will never find the same one twice, yet they all mean the same thing.
Hygge is a way of living, decorating and a mindset. You can pick and choose what you want to instill in your life, and no it’s not like a cult. It’s supposed to give you a way to live peacefully, whether its by creating a cozy bed filled with pillows, or sipping tea in a hammock after a long day. Ask anyone for different ways to live the Danish lifestyle, and it will vary person to person. I had originally heard of it when i was studying abroad and saw a book called “Hygge” in a bookstore. There where many different books on the topic, and you can search anywhere to find ways to start living a Hygge life, it all just starts with a simple search!
